Valentine's Day Gift Ideas for Scottie Lovers
First, let me start by saying that love - especially Scottie Love! - should be celebrated every single day of the year, not just on Valentine's Day. Yet, I know many of you are embarking on your annual quest for something that will "wow" the Scottie Mom (or Dad!) in your life. In case you're running short on Valentine's Day gift ideas this year, I thought I'd make things a bit easier on you and round up some fabulous finds that are sure to leave a lasting impression. Have a Valentine's Day gift idea for fellow Scottie lovers you'd like to share? Let us know in the comments below!
Capture the memories.
Many pet parents put this one off thinking there's plenty of time to get this done. Take it from someone who actually did this: don't procrastinate! Hire a professional pet photographer in your area and surprise your loved one with some framed images, canvases or a photo book of your darling Scotties. You and your loved one will be glad you did. What better way to preserve those memories?
Give something sweet.
Talk to a local baker and see if they can whip up a Scottie-inspired cake or decorate Scottie-shaped cookies for your loved one. If you're feeling really adventurous, try a little DIY. Need a little inspiration? This Pinterest board has all you need to channel your inner Cake Boss.
Radley to the rescue.
One thing I appreciate about our friends at Radley London (besides their fashionable designs) is that they produce Scottie stuff all year long - not just around the holidays. It can be hard for us Scottie Moms to have to wait all year to see cute Scottie stuff in stores! Fortunately, Radley has come to our rescue with more cuteness than ever. Have you seen their latest Scottie-patterned goods? Here are a few of my personal favorites: Sneaky Peek Umbrella, Scottie Dog-Shaped Zip-top Shoulder Bag, Love Lane Cross Body Bag, and Dog in the Window Umbrella. So many choices!
Make it bling.
It doesn't get more cliche than jewelry as a Valentine's Day gift, in my opinion, but there are some classic pieces out there that are sure to showcase your loved one's Scottie Love. Have you seen these Agatha Paris designs? Gorgeous. There are many more from which to choose online as well.
Pay it forward.
Make a donation to your area Scottish Terrier rescue organization in your loved one's name. There are plenty of Scotties (and other animals) out there still looking for their happily ever after and your donation can make a real difference in their lives. Want to show your loved one that your heart is made of gold? Surprise them with another rescue or open your heart and home to a foster in need.
Still stuck? I recently added nearly 100 new products to the Scottie Mom shop. Check it out!

Share Your Scottie Love Story
Scottie Love is in the air. Can you feel it? With days left until Valentine's Day, I'm opening the Scottie Love line, encouraging everyone to submit “gotcha” stories of how your pup came into your heart and your home. Tell me all about your puppy love story below in the comments. Share as little or as much as you want about your "gotcha" story! A lucky few will be profiled right here on the blog.
Scottie Love found me by accident. I accompanied a friend to a shelter because she wanted to welcome a dog into her home and can you guess which one of us ended up finding a furry friend to love that day? Hint: not her! I found Mr. K depressed and all alone at the shelter. He wouldn't even make eye contact with me and he looked nothing like a Scottish Terrier. Still, I knew I had to give this sweet boy a forever home. No one deserved to be that unhappy. The rest, my friends, is history.
See Mr. K's dramatic transformation.
Fast forward about a year later and into my life came Heather. I was determined to find Mr. K a friend, having moved to a new city and taken a new job that kept me away longer than I would have liked. That's when I spotted a gorgeous wheaten girl in the care of Tennessee Scottish Terrier Rescue. She had been found in a raccoon trap, was missing some teeth and yet, she was perfect in every way. Mr. K and Heather pretty much ignored each other when they met but it didn't take long for them to be bitten by the Scottie Love bug. The two were inseparable until Heather's passing.
From raccoon trap to forever home: Heather's story.
When I decided it was time to expand the Scottie Mom family, the crew literally doubled in size overnight when a bonded pair came home. Once again, the Scotties ignored each other at first, but it was clear Nibbles had decided she and her brother Pudley were exactly where they needed to be when she hopped into the Scottie Mobile without invitation and sat there patiently waiting to be chauffeured to their new forever home, where happily ever after they shall live.
Now that you know my Scottie Love story, it is your turn to share yours! Was it Scottie Love at first sight? Or maybe you were bitten by the Scottie Love bug a little later on. Whatever the situation, I'm sure it is a Scottie Love story to remember and I'd love to hear it. Share the details below or contact us here to submit your Scottie Love story for consideration as a feature on the blog.
Scottish Terrier Club of Peru Celebrates Special Anniversary
Recently, Scottie Moms and Dads gathered for a special Scottish Terrier meetup celebrating the fourth anniversary of the Scottish Terrier Club of Peru. Small at first, the group has grown to more than 400 Scottish Terriers in just four years. The members coordinate quarterly events and they not only look out for the best interests of Scottie dogs in the area, they work to provide support to the animal shelters in their communities. Happy anniversary, Scottish Terrier Club of Peru!
eBook: Scottish Terriers of the World
If there's one thing that Project: International Scottie Love taught me, it is that Scottish Terriers are everywhere! From Scotland to New Zealand and Canada to Argentina, Scottie dogs are leaving paw prints on hearts all over the world. The evidence is in my eBook, Scottish Terriers of the World.
The first volume in a series of Scottish Terriers of the World eBooks, this edition introduces readers to Scottie dogs living in more than 20 countries. A total of 25 Scotties were chosen as ambassadors for their terrier-tories in this first edition. Meet a few of these ambassadors in this sneak preview.
Already, I've heard from hundreds of Scottie Moms and Dads, and the search for Scottish Terriers around the world is only just beginning! Soon, I once again will set out to find even more Scottie dogs living abroad and will eventually select new ambassadors from terrier-tories across the globe for the next edition of my eBook, Scottish Terriers of the World.
Want to put your Scottish Terrier on the map? Subscribe by email and look for details on how to nominate your Scottie. If you're already subscribed, you'll be among the first notified when our next round of nominations for Project: International Scottie Love open. In the meantime, check out the International Scottie Love photo album on Facebook to meet other Scottish Terriers of the World.
Life's a Beach with Beachin' Biscuits
Ever discover a place that's been hiding under your nose and you wonder why you didn't find it sooner? That's exactly how I feel about Beachin' Biscuits, a small family-owned and operated business selling organic, homemade dog treats right here in Georgia. A colleague and fellow devoted dog mom gave the Scottie Mom crew a gift card to Beachin' Biscuits. And I'm so glad she did!
The owner Britt started baking homemade treats for her four adopted dogs (and any foster dogs she and her husband might have at any given time) when she decided she didn't want to feed her dogs things with ingredients she couldn't pronounce. Plus, like Mr. K - and I'm starting to suspect Nibbles and Pudley as well - three of her dogs had allergies so I was more than willing to give these treats a try...and so was the Scottie Mom crew. Here's what I ordered from their website:
When the package arrived, the Scottie Mom crew didn't know what to think. It wasn't until the treats revealed themselves that they started dancing around the house as if the Overtreater suddenly appeared. And after just a taste of each flavor, I think I can safely say that I have won these Scottie hearts back! For quite some time, their favorite person in the whole world has been the Overtreater (and perhaps, understandably so...who else spoils them with way too many treats?).

Nibbles and Pudley were very curious about this special delivery. |

Mr. K debated which to taste first...cran-apple, milk and cookies, or punkin' donuts. |

Clearly, the mini donuts were a hit with Nibbles. Here she is smiling while she's chewing. |

Pudley didn't need much time to decide on the milk and cookies flavor first. |
I'll be trying Beachin' Biscuits again, not only because they're local and the dogs loved their products but because I'm intrigued by the gluten-free and vegan options that supposedly make great "clean" snacks for humans, too! Oh, and it doesn't hurt that a portion of proceeds are donated to local rescues. Tell us: what local favorites have you discovered in your neck of the woods?
10 Things to Remember about 2016
I know many can relate when I say 2016 was not a great year for me. In fact, it was one of the worst I've experienced thus far in life. There are days I still struggle with the life-changing events that ultimately will help shape who I am to become. Yet, I know I have much to be thankful for and wanted to find a way to express gratitude for some of the events that took place these past 12 months. And so, here are some of the Scottie Mom community's most memorable moments of 2016.

'Tis the Season of Giving the #BestofBLUE
Festivities are in full force at the Scottie House. As evidenced by the photos on Facebook, Mr. K, Nibbles and Pudley already have been parading around in their holiday best and I couldn't be more excited to introduce Nibbles and Pudley to one of my favorite family traditions. Once each year, the Scottie Mom crew puts aside their issues with friends of the feline persuasion to offer them gifts of love (aka treats and other goodies). With 5 feline cousins in the family, that's a lot of love for three Scottish Terriers who typically want nothing to do with C-A-T-S.
This post is sponsored by Blue Buffalo™ and the BlogPaws® Pet Influencer Network™. I am being compensated for helping spread the word about Blue Buffalo's extensive product offering for cats and dogs available at Petsmart®, but this Scottie Mom only shares information I feel is relevant to our readers. Blue Buffalo is not responsible for the content of this article.
To get the Scotties in the holiday spirit, I grabbed a few cans of BLUE Santa Stew® to add to their regular evening meal and topped each dish with one BLUE Santa Snacks® biscuit. The oatmeal and cinnamon natural treats had just the right spice to make everything nice and soon enough, the Scotties were ready to stuff stockings for their feline cousins with healthy treats and crinkle toys galore. Once again, Mr. K found himself scratching his beard wondering how so many C-A-T-S could make it on Santa's list labeled "nice" but I reminded him these rescue kitties are family. And as such, we should feed them like family. With six flavors from which to choose, each cat cousin received their very own special BLUE Kitty Yums® pack. The treats were quite the hit!

Meet the Scottie Dog Behind Vera Bradley's New Pattern
I have to admit: I'm kind of obsessed with Vera Bradley's Scottie Dog pattern. A collector of sorts and owner of a few dozen Vera Bradley bags myself, I've wondered for years when they were going to come out with a Scottie dog pattern (and also dreaded it knowing my purse strings would loosen if they ever did!). So when I opened the mail to find a handsome, black Scottish Terrier posed with a large Vera Bradley duffel bag on the cover of their holiday 2016 gift guide, I squealed with excitement and couldn't help but wonder who that lucky Scottie dog was.

It turns out that handsome Scottish Terrier is Dylan from Indiana. He's been one of very few to be "in the know" about the new Vera Bradley Scottie Dog pattern since early this year when he was asked to take the stage at a company event in March announcing the new pattern. Dylan must have made quite the impression because the team at Vera Bradley asked to have him back for a full-day photo shoot with the new merchandise in August. And so, the images in the holiday guide were born.
This was Dylan's first professional modeling gig. Having spent many hours of his life posing for the camera for his human sister Jen Moser (now a professional photographer), he was ready to take his talents to the national stage. And the team at Vera Bradley made sure to treat Dylan like the star he is! They pampered him, had his favorite food and snacks prepared before he arrived on set and gave him all the attention, ear scratches and pats on the head a Scottie dog could want. They even sent him home with a monogrammed Vera Bradley bag filled with goodies.
When he's not answering fan mail for his growing number of admirers, Dylan can be found at home with his litter mate Duncan and their Scottie Mom Betsy and Scottie Dad Mike. Human sister Jen still comes over to take fur family photos, too. Dylan, who will turn 8 years old in December, has been able to stay pretty down-to-Earth considering his newfound fame. He loves to destroy toys - especially those plush kinds with an empty water bottle inside. And he still makes time to have fun with Duncan when he's not posing for the camera (after all, it is hard work being so cute!).

For an in-depth, behind-the-scenes look at Dylan's photo shoot for Vera Bradley, check out his human sister Jen's photography blog. While this may have been his first professional modeling gig, something tells me this won't be Dylan's last. Way to go, handsome pup! Tell us: what is your favorite piece from the new collection of Vera Bradley Scottie Dog patterned stuff?
